Home and community care services are for people of all ages who require care in their home, at school or in the community. Seniors and people with complex medical conditions of all ages can often stay in their own homes if they have some support. This can include:

Ontario Seniors at Home Tax Credit
The Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit is a refundable personal income tax credit to help low-to moderate-income seniors with eligible medical expenses. including expenses that support aging at home or one’s place of residence. The credit provides up to 25% of claimable medical expenses up to $6,000, for a maximum credit of $1,500. This amount is reduced by 5% of family net income over $35,000 and fully phased out by at most $65,000.
You may be eligible to claim this credit if you:
- Turned 70 years of age or older in the year, or have a spouse or common-law partner who turned 70 years of age in the year.
- You are a resident in Ontario at the end of the tax year
You can be eligible regardless of the type of dwelling you live in (for example, a house, apartment, retirement home or a long-term care home.)
Some of the eligible expenses include:
- Attendant care
- Dental, vision and hearing care
- Walking aids
- Bathroom aids, and more

Disability Tax Credit
The Disability Tax Credit is a non-refundable tax credit that helps people with disabilities, or their supporting family member, reduce the amount of income tax they may have to pay. In order to be eligible for this tax credit, a medical practitioner certifies that you have a severe and prolonged impairment in 1 of the categories, significant limitations in 2 or more categories, or receive therapy to support a vital function. The categories include:
- Walking
- Mental functions
- Dressing
- Feeding
- Eliminating (bowl or bladder functions)
- Hearing
- Speaking
- Vision, and
- Life-sustaining therapy
