Why Choose Us?

Why choose My Place Home Care over any other care company?

  1. We are a fully licensed home care provider with the province of Ontario, THA License #0000002582, a requirement for any home care company operating in the province.

2.  We are fully committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive, and personalised care to our clients. We focus on person centred care and have even developed our own dementia day program. The program was developed at the beginning of Covid with the intention of bringing it out into the community to help alleviate the strain on caregivers who are caring for loved ones with dementia but are waiting for an available spot in the publicly funded day programs. The idea was that we would work with each senior centre and the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), now called Ontario Health at Home (OHaH), to determine if those on the waitlist would be interested in attending our program until a free spot opened in a publicly funded program. When Covid hit we decided to customize the program on an individual basis for our clients. The program incorporates the client’s Life Story (where they were born, who their family was, where they went to school, their spouse and children, interests and professional career, etc.) along with upwards of fifty activities (based on their likes and previous hobbies/activities) for us to engage our clients on any given day. This can also include exercise, music therapy, art therapy, puzzles based on abilities, and even customised word searches and crosswords based on the client’s interest. We even created our own games, from matching games, tangrams, Bird Bingo, Name the Prime Ministers, World Flags and Capitals, as well as Canadian provinces, territories and their capitals, and many more!

3.  Our caregivers go through an extensive interview process and must score over 85% prior to being hired by My Place Home Care. During the interview they answer questions that help us determine if they are problem solvers, quick thinkers, able to remain calm during a tense situation, and many other scenarios (what to do when a client falls; how do they handle challenging clients or their family) We ask that they define three of our core principles (compassion, integrity, and responsibility) and how do they show these principles when interacting with clients. Many of our clients live at home (alone or with family), and therefore our caregivers do not always have immediate and/or physical support. We want to make sure our team is filled with calm, level-headed, talented people who will be able to handle different situations while maintaining compassion, integrity, responsibility, and professionalism.

4.  Training. Our PSWs have successfully completed a PSW program from various colleges and institutions from around the world. However, when they begin working with us, they are subjected to our additional training requirements. Besides an extensive onboarding process, each caregiver attends our Positive Approach to Care (PAC) training for dementia care and is provided by our PAC certified dementia care nurse. Our caregivers are extremely compassionate and empathetic, that is what makes them some of the best caregivers working in the industry! We are truly blessed to work with such amazing people.

5.  Work/Life Balance. We care about our caregivers work/life balance as it ensures they are heard and understood so they can provide their best to their clients. With our minimum three-hour windows of care, we make sure that our caregivers have the time to build meaningful relationships with their clients. This is accomplished through our caregiver matching process that ensures a good fit between client and caregiver. Though our caregivers are in the field on their own, and we strive to support them the best we can.

6.  Our Network. Our clients matter! So, if we don’t provide a service they need or want, we have an extensive network of people and companies to share with them. It can be anything from a haircut, pair of glasses, hospital bed, occupational therapy, physio, mental health resources, foot care nurses, renovations, or any other services a senior may require to stay at home longer.
